  • Launch your Linux distribution’s installer and go through the installation process. On Ubuntu, launch the Install Ubuntu application from the desktop and install Ubuntu as you normally would. Be sure to select the “Install Ubuntu alongside Mac OS X” option instead of overwriting your Mac OS X system with Ubuntu.
  • I had an old 17 inch MacBook Pro from 2009 (college) lying around and I figured it’d be a fun challenge to install Linux on it. I had never installed or even used Linux before (to my knowledge). I also, confusingly, hadn’t found a clean, step-by-step guide for doing this, so I promised I’d write my process out as thoroughly but simply as I could once I got it done.

Install Linux On Macbook Pro

One recurring theme that’s constantly hitting my inbox centers around installing Linux on an older MacBook. My Late 2013 MacBook Pro (which is still a beast!) running elementary OS.

I have decided to install Linux on my Mac Mini. However there is a problem. In order to load a Linux from a CD one needs to make the CD bootable. Unfortunately, after the Linux is installed, there is no way to start it from the HD, since hardware is now set to boot from the CD, and one has no way of changing Mac's equivalent of 'CMOS' without the MacOS installed.
Of course I would be the most happy if I could make my Mac minia dual boot system, with both Linux and MacOS installed, this looks would solve a problem I described above, but I must be missing something, because it appears there isn't an easy way to do this. I am not particularly fond of a virtual OS solution, that some have mentioned elsewhere on this forum.
Does anybody have solution for my problem?
